To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life ย  (Romans 2:7, NIV)
We are living in the last days, and Jesus Christ said, “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man” (Matthew 24:37, NIV). In the days of Noah, it was recorded that “The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth” (Genesis 6:5, NIV). This meant there was great wickedness on the earth in the days of Noah, just as we see emerging in our world today.
When Christ manifested in the world as a man, He called His disciples the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16). We are light because of our faith in Him and obedience to His instructions, and His nature is love (1 John 4:8). The devil hates light, for he is the ruler of the kingdom of darkness (Ephesians 6:12). As long as there are lights on earth, he is not ruling, for light rules over darkness (John 1:5). For this reason, the devil seeks relentlessly to quench the light of people โ€“ that is, he tries to attack their faith in God and their walk of love. His instrument for this is wickedness.
When talking about the end times, Jesus Christ said, “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold” (Matthew 24:12). If your love grows cold because of the wickedness in the world, it means you have stopped shining. Knowing that the devil pushes people to act wickedly towards others to discourage their faith in God and walk of love, we must persevere in doing good โ€“ in obeying God’s instruction to love (John 13:34-35).
As we keep asking God for help in this regard, grace is given to us to continue in faith and love, and our light will continue to shine in a dark world (Philippians 4:13). The reward for this perseverance is glory, honor, and immortality, as stated in Romans 2:7.
Like Jesus, let us set our gaze on the glory ahead, even as we endure the cross of our obedience and association with Him (Hebrews 12:2).
Prayer Points:
Let us thank God for His word today. Let us ask Him to help us persevere in doing good and for our light to keep shining.
