Eternity In View

Call to Prayer

Topic Eternity in viewย

And he said to them, โ€œTake care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for oneโ€™s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.โ€
Luke 12:15 ESV

Coming to Germany, fresh from Africa, I was met by seemly well-meaning people who were very quick to give me counsel on how to succeed in the land. They emphasized making plans and setting goals that would ensure I quickly have certain things, which to them will make me a success. As they spoke, I discerned the voice of the Holy Spirit in my heart saying ‘Plan for Eternity’.

Our life on earth should not be lived based on how much we can acquire but should be seen as an opportunity to please God and make investments for life after now. There are a lot of good things that struggle for our attention, but we should rather seek to know and do the will of God (Eph. 5:17). A life of true contentment is not found in how much we can gather, as today’s scriptural verse admonished, but is found in how much of Him that we have (John 10:10). Therefore, seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness is the way we should live as Matthew 6:33 revealed. And as He said, every other thing (the good things of life we desire) will be added, at His time.

If Paul the Apostle was focussed on His needs, will he and Silas be able to glorify God in prison as they did (Acts. 16: 26 – 34)? Their attitude in that season of hardness led to the salvation of the souls of the prison official and his family. Job lost all he had and still chose to fear God, today we read his story to know how to persevere in a contrary situation and have hope. One cannot fulfil his/her life’s purpose if his/her life is attached to things. How do you know if your life is attached to things? Your attitude towards God when you lose them, or when you do not have them.

Prayer Point:

Let’s take out time today to ask God to help His children to live with eternity in view. Let’s ask Him to help us to see that we have our sufficiency in Him

God bless you all.
