Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

There is a close link between trust and obedience. For instance, a father can place a little child on top of an elevated place and ask the child to jump so that he catches him and most children will jump. That’s because they see their father and they trust him ( btw mothers won’t play this kind of game because they don’t like risk by nature). The more you trust the easier obedience becomes. 

In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), we see that the servant who buried his talent said his reason was because he knew the master to be a hard man who reaps where he did not sow… The question I ask is: why did the other servants not know the master to be this mean person he described? That means his conceptions were probably based on his imagination or unproven opinions rather than seeking to know the master for himself. 

One of the ways we grow our knowing of our master, Jesus Christ, and build trust in Him, is by seeking to know Him through the hearing and study of His written word. There is a common saying that “Ignorance of the law is not an excuse”. God has revealed Himself through the word so we don’t have an excuse for not knowing God when we have the bible and do not read it. 

At times you might not understand why you should obey certain instructions of God or what you are going through but as you study the word He begins to renew your mind and you gain understanding. But even before then, one fundamental understanding that one must have is that God is Love and God is Good!  So that gives you the faith to trust and obey even before you grow in deeper understanding. This kind of faith will make you cross bridges even before you realize how deep the river is. 

Lastly, I would remind us to of course pray always. Praying in tongues builds your faith(trust). See it for yourself (1 Corinthians 14:4, 1 Corinthians 14:17-19, Isaiah 28:11-13). Honestly, sometimes it does not make sense but I just believe and do it. If the word says it, it is the truth and we will understand more later. 

Prayer point:

Let’s thank God today for the word. Let’s pray that God gives us the grace to seek to know Him in the word and prayer so that we can trust and walk with Him.
