Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”
โ€” John 9:3 NIV
God desires that all be saved and come into the fullness of their calling (1 Timothy 2:4). Since the fall of Adam, God has been actively working to reconcile humanity to Himself (Romans 5:10-11). To enable fallen humanity to believe in and trust a God who is unseen, God chooses to reveal His glory in ways that will convince the hearts of the natural man that this is indeed God.
God selects certain individuals for the display of His glory. For these individuals, their lives may not follow the natural course, as God intentionally allows them to endure situations that only His power can bring them through. This is done so that those who witness their struggles and hear their testimonies will be convinced that only God could have made it happen.
An example of someone chosen for the manifestation of God’s glory is Abraham. Although Abraham was a man of great faith and obedience, his wife, Sarah, was barren. God had promised him a child, but He chose to wait until Abraham was 100 years old before fulfilling His promise. God did this to reveal His power (glory) to humanity through the birth of Isaac (Romans 4:19-21). Though the bodies of Abraham and Sarah were as good as dead, God enabled them to conceive, demonstrating that He is able to give life to the dead (Romans 4:17).
Another example is the blind man in John 9, who had been blind from birth. He endured blindness for 40 years, not because of sin, but because God had planned to display His glory through him (John 9:3). God intended for those who knew him in his condition to witness his healing and, through that, come to trust in Jesus.
Similarly, Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, was also chosen for the manifestation of God’s glory. When Jesus was told that Lazarus was sick, He chose not to heal him immediately but waited until Lazarus died. Jesus’ delay was intentional, as He planned to raise Lazarus from the dead, demonstrating God’s glory. As Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it” (John 11:4).
Like Abraham, the blind man, and Lazarus, there are people whom God has chosen to manifest His glory. These individuals may live righteous lives, but they may endure discomfort, suffering, and delays. However, when God intervenes, His glory will be revealed, and many will come to Christ because of them.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let us ask Him to help us trust Him in any situation He has allowed us to endure for His glory. May our lives reflect His power, and may others come to know Him through our testimonies.
