Title: Overcoming Regrets

โForget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?โ ( Isaiah 43:18-19)
Regret can be a heavy burden, chaining us to the mistakes of our past. We remember failures, dwell on opportunities we missed, and sometimes even question whether God can still use us or restore the things we have lost. The enemy loves to remind us of our shortcomings, whispering lies that we are too broken for Godโs redemption and that the errors of the past have sealed our fate. But the truth is, in Christ, regret does not have the final say.
The Bible is full of people who could have been paralyzed by regret. Peter denied Jesus three times, yet he was restored and became a pillar of the early church (John 21:15-17). Paul persecuted Christians before his dramatic conversion, but God used him to spread the gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 9). Even King David, after his grave sins of adultery and murder, found mercy and continued to be known as a man after Godโs own heart (Acts 13:22).
If God could redeem their pasts, He can redeem ours. Isaiah 43:18-19 encourages us not to dwell on the past because God is doing a new thing. Regret focuses on what we cannot change, but faith looks forward to what God is restoring.
How do we overcome regret?
1. Confess and Surrender โ God does not want us to suppress or ignore our regrets. Instead, He calls us to bring them before Him. โIf we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.โ (1 John 1:9).
2. Receive Godโs Grace โ When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the price for our past, present, and future sins. If God has forgiven us, we must also learn to forgive ourselves.
3. Walk in the Newness of Life โ Philippians 3:13-14 urges us to forget what is behind and press on toward what is ahead. God wants us to focus on the new work He is doing, rather than dwelling on past failures.
Regret does not define youโGodโs grace does. As much as the enemy desires to tie you down, let go of the past and embrace the new thing He is doing in your life today.
Prayer point:
Letโs thank God for His word today. Let us ask for grace to walk in the newness of life without regrets.
