Title: Deception, and the Need for Wisdom

By: Daniel Peter

Date: 17.10.2023

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;ย  ย 2 Th 2:3 KJV

Ever since the creation of man, the devil has always used deception as a tool against him. The devil hasnโ€™t changed, he is the same serpent only that he is now old and more experienced (Revelation 12:9). In the scriptural verse of today, we see Paul advised the Thessalonians to watch against deception in the end time, re-echoing Jesusโ€™ admonition to His disciples in Matthew 24. To overcome deception, you need wisdom (Prov. 20:1).

Another emphasis of our need for wisdom in our season of waiting for the coming of the Lord was expressed in Matthew 25: 1 โ€“ 13, where a story of the ten virgins was told. The virgins symbolize the Church, who is the bride of Christ, waiting for the return of the Lord Jesus. We see that five of them were wise and they were admitted into the wedding banquet, the others were foolish and they were locked out. This means, only the wise will make the rapture. With this known, itโ€™s safe to say that there is a dire need for wisdom.

In James 3: 13 โ€“ 18, two kinds of wisdom were revealed: Wisdom from above and the wisdom that is โ€˜earthly, sensual, and devilishโ€™ (The second has its origin from Satan). The wisdom from above (Wisdom that has its origin from God) is what is needed to escape the deceptive trick of the devil and to make necessary preparation for the coming of The Lord.

How do we access this Godly wisdom? To keep it short, I will explain one and list the others. The first way for us to access Godly wisdom is to believe the Truth. The moment we believed the Gospel, Christ became our wisdom (1Cor. 1:30). How much of Him, as our wisdom, is expressed in our lives depends on how much of Him we know. Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6). In 2 Thess. 2:10, we see that God gave up some people over to the deception of the devil because they refused to believe the Truth. Therefore, believing the Truth gives you access to God as your wisdom which helps you to escape deception. Other ways we can access wisdom are: by asking (James 1:5), by seeking (Ephesians 5:14 โ€“ 17), and by observation (Proverbs 24: 30 โ€“ 34), by listening carefully (Proverbs 1:5) and by laying of hands (Deut 34:9).

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s take time today to ask God to fill each member of the body of Christ with His wisdom.
