He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

ย (Micah 6:8 NKJV)

The last time I was reading the Book of Micah, I was surprised and shocked at what I found in Chapter Six of this Book. We know that the Lord through Moses gave some Laws to the people of Israel (Ex 20, Ex 31:18). He also instructed them on what to do when they break any of these Laws. The Lord instructed the people to make animal offerings when they sin or break the Laws (Lev 1, Lev 6:8-13).

We know that the Lord has always been seeking to have a relationship with man since the beginning. I always thought that this truth was concealed in the Old Testament and had now been revealed to us as New Testament Believers. Therefore, I was surprised when I found in Micah that the Lord does not take delight in the burnt offerings but requires us to do what is right, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him (Mic 6:8).

It is very important to know what the Lord desires and what really pleases Him. Ignorant of this causes many to serve God their own way which may later render their efforts futile. The people thought that the Lord was so much interested in their burnt offerings. They can therefore live their lives anyhow and keep breaking the Laws of the Lord because they can just buy some animals to be used as an offering.

Sadly, there are so many people in our days who still think that the Lord takes great delight in their big offerings over building a committed and surrendered relationship with Him. Thatโ€™s why you will see many people do evil to others, cheat, steal, embezzle state funds, and use various foul means to acquire wealth.

These same people will come to Church and give big offerings thinking that the Lord will be proud of them. Such people think they can buy the Grace and Gifts of God with their evil money (Acts 8:18-23). As New Testament Believers, the best offering we can give to the Lord is to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, fully surrendered and committed to doing His Will (Rom 12:1-2).

Beloved in the Lord, God does not take delight in the physical and burnt offerings we give to Him. He never did! All He had wanted since the beginning was to build a strong relationship with us. Knowing this, letโ€™s not replace obeying the Lord and doing His Will with just giving Him an offering. Letโ€™s rather offer ourselves to Him as living sacrifices, fully surrendered and committed to always doing His Will. This is what He requires of you!

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to help all Believers around the world to offer ourselves as living sacrifices, fully surrendered and committed to always doing His Will.

God bless you all
