Now as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus.
Luke 23:26 NKJV
As Jesus embarked on His journey to the cross, He needed assistance. Our scriptural verse of today recounts how Simon of Cyrene was compelled to carry Jesus’ cross. This poignant moment illustrates that even Jesus, the Son of God, required help to fulfill His divine purpose. Similarly, we too need destiny helpers to fulfill His purposes for us.
Destiny helpers are individuals appointed by God to aid us at critical junctures in our lives. Although God is our ultimate Helper, He often employs human vessels and angelic messengers to facilitate His plans. History shows that notable achievements are rarely accomplished without assistance. Conversely, the absence of help can lead to stagnation and failure.
Regrettably, many people overlook their destiny helpers due to misguided perceptions. God’s chosen vessels may not always conform to our expectations or occupy esteemed positions. The biblical account of Naaman, a military general, is a case in point (2 Kings 5:1-14). A young servant girl, likely from a humble background, played a pivotal role in directing Naaman to the prophet Elisha, who facilitated his healing. Similarly, Joseph’s elevation to a position of authority was facilitated by a fellow prisoner, the chief butler (Genesis 40:1-23).
The Bible cautions us against despising anyone (Proverbs 3:7, 1 Corinthians 1:27-29), as God often uses the unassuming to achieve His purposes. In fact, when God was about to fulfill His promises to Abraham, He came in the form of a traveler who needed rest and food (Genesis 18). This underscores the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.
One effective way to attract destiny helpers is through acts of kindness and generosity. Joseph’s interpretation of the cupbearer’s dream and Naaman must have been benevolent towards his servant girl for her to be interested in his healing. These are exemplary models of sowing seeds of kindness; as we help others, we create an environment conducive to receiving help when we need it most.
Another vital strategy is to petition God in prayer, asking Him to send destiny helpers our way. As we pray, we can trust that God will move the hearts of people to favor us.
Prayer Point
Let us express gratitude to God for His word today. May we ask Him to send destiny helpers our way and grant us the discernment to recognize them.
