Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You serve the Lord Christ.”
Colossians 3:23-24

Laziness is characterized by a lack of willingness or motivation to take action (Proverbs 21:25). It often begins with procrastination, where tasks are continually postponed (Proverbs 6:6-8). For some, God has ordained specific tasks or purposes, but procrastination hinders progress (Ephesians 2:10). I pray that God grants you the grace to act timely and avoid slothfulness, as encouraged in Proverbs 13:4.

While waiting for God’s promises to manifest, it’s essential to distinguish between spiritual weariness and laziness. Weariness can be a natural response to prolonged waiting, but laziness can creep in if we’re not vigilant (Galatians 6:9). May you find strength and motivation in God’s Word, even in times of waiting (Psalm 27:14).

What does Jesus say about a lazy person? He loves the person, but he strongly dislikes the lazy attitudes that keep them from reaching their maximum potential. In Matthew 25:30, Jesus called a lazy person a non-productive or unprofitable servant. The causes of laziness are lack of interest in the activity, lack of self-esteem, etc.

You can fight laziness according to Col 3:23-24: Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You serve the Lord Christ.

Approach tasks with enthusiasm and dedication. View work as serving God, rather than just men. Recognize that God will provide a reward for faithful service. Know that your waiting is not in vain.

PRAYER POINTS

Thank God for his word. Let’s ask God to encourage every heart that is weary. Let’s ask God for strength at every phase of life so as not to be lazy in the process.
