But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. ( Luke 2:19)

Most of us have had multiple prophecies declared over our lives and promises from God that we have received personally at different seasons and stages of our existence. But we can’t even remember most of them anymore because they are not written down or kept in the treasure groves of our hearts and being meditated upon and declared from time to time.

In our anchor scripture, we see a powerful example in the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Amidst angelic announcements, prophetic utterances, and divine encounters, Mary did something profound, she treasured these things and pondered them in her heart. She didn’t let these divine words pass her by or fade into memory. Instead, she intentionally meditated on them and kept them alive in her spirit. This was one of the reasons Mary had the boldness to go meet Jesus that there is no more wine and to tell the servants at the wedding in Cana of Galilee to do whatsoever Jesus tells them to do ( John 2:3-5).

Meditating on God’s promises is more than just remembering them; it’s about intentionally anchoring our hearts and minds in the truths He has spoken. Life is full of distractions and sometimes delays and without a firm grip on what God has said, it’s easy to drift into doubt or discouragement. But when we choose to do what Mary did (to treasure and ponder), we create space for faith to grow.

To meditate is to reflect, to revisit over and over again. When we do this, we are declaring war against forgetfulness and fear. When we speak out God’s promises, declare them in prayer, and journal them in our quiet times, we build spiritual muscle and endurance. Meditation transforms a spoken word into a living reality within us.

God doesn’t forget His promises, but we often do. That’s why writing them down, praying them consistently, and keeping them before our eyes is vital. The enemy wants us to forget, to dismiss, and to doubt, but meditating on God’s promises fortifies our faith and reminds us that He is faithful to perform what He has spoken.

Let us treasure the words God has given and ponder them with intentionality as Mary did. As we do, we will see those promises move from mere possibility to fulfilled prophecy because of our belief in Him.

Prayer point:

Let us thank God for His word today. Let’s pray for the grace to remember all His promises and to meditate on them continually.
