Title: Mercy

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4: 16 NIV
Mercy is the compassionate treatment of those in need, especially when it’s within one’s power to punish or harm them. In a biblical context, mercy is a fundamental aspect of God’s character and a virtue expected from every believer.
The word translated as “mercy” in the opening Scripture of today was from the Greek word “Eleos”, meaning compassion or pity, particularly from God. God’s mercy is His compassion and kindness towards humanity, despite their sinfulness and unworthiness. The way to access His mercy is simply to come before His throne of grace as stated in Hebrews 4:16.
We come before God by simply being conscious of Him. In that awareness of His presence, we acknowledge our faults before Him and ask for His mercy. Again, since He has made us vessels of mercy, we can walk with the awareness that His mercy is always abiding with us, just as David expressed in Psalm 23:6:
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Gratitude for mercy leads to humility and worship, for we know that whatever height we obtain in life is as a result of His mercy. And in times of trials and difficulty, we can boldly call on His mercy, knowing that He is faithful.
I remember a time in my life when I was going through a tough time; all I needed was His mercy. I called on Him, and God indeed showed me His infinite mercy. You too can do the same.
In every area of life where we need intervention, I pray God’s mercy will intervene in Jesus’ name.
