and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:ย Genesis 12:2 KJV
The purpose of God sending Jesus Christ to humanity is that He will be a blessing to us. As scripture says: “… having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities (Acts 3:26)”. The end result of God’s blessing to us through Jesus Christ is that we ourselves will become blessings to others.
Despite God blesses us so we can become blessings, and there is a grace attached to each blessing He gives to us to extend to others, there is a yielding on our part for this to be the reality. As grace can be in vain if not put to use (1Cor. 15:10). Now, the first thing we need to know for us to be a blessing to our generation is that it is our inheritance in God. As children of God, we have become heirs of God (Rom. 8:17). Meaning, we are heirs of His nature. As Jesus is a blessing, we also are blessings for we have His nature. Knowing and affirming this will help manifest it.
Another thing we need to do for us to manifest as blessings is giving: Giving of that which we have received. Jesus Christ was described as a life-giving Spirit (1 Chro. 15:45). He became a blessing to us because He gave us from His essence. In the same manner, we manifest as blessings we when give that which we have received from Him; when we give the eternal life we have received by preaching the Gospel, when we minister & impart the spiritual gifts we have liberally, and we distribute the physical blessings like money to others etc. The key to this is that we give from the little we have. We don’t wait until we acquire all the knowledge before we start speaking about Him, or until we have all the money before we start giving. As we obey by giving from the little we have, He increases what we have.
Finally, meditating on the word helps us to manifest as blessings. Jesus is the word (John 1:1). The more of the word we have in our heart, the more of Him will come out of our mouths as living water imparting life to our hearers (John 7:38). And the more we find grace to act like Him, who is the blessing.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help the body of Christ manifest as blessings.
