Title: A new creature in Christ

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17).
There is a thorough change of life that is experienced when one turns to Jesus. This extraordinary encounter is a sudden powerful transformation that can be likened to ‘birth’. Being born in the natural realm comes with a new phase of life where one virtually learns the elementary rules of engagements.ย The baby appears innocent and harmless and thus, will have to undergo growth phases through learning the activities in the environment. Such exact experience happens in the spiritual realm; although it can only happen when one wholeheartedly abandons their sinful and carnal ways and embraces Jesus through repentance by faith. As the scripture said ”for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
Jesus Christ is the only savior that can save and deliver a sinful person from a perpetual sinful life. An encounter with Him brings about genuine conversion, where the old and sinful life is crucified with Him, and a new life is given to sin no more. A new creature in Christ who before had pleasure in wickedness, rebellion and ungodly lifestyle,ย no longer practices such things because Jesus grants them the power to live a victorious holy life. This new life, moreover, is being supervised and guided by the Holy spirit who was promised by Jesus.(Acts 1:8)
The Holy spirit then teaches the new creature how to live a sinless life by faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is the first stage (repentance and forgiveness) which is also the ”spiritual new birth”. After salvation, the new baby in Christ needs to grow into a mature child by craving for the sincere milk of the word (1 Peter 2:2). Apostle Paul, in his epistle to the Corinthians, was notifying them about the transformation of any man who genuinely embraces Christ, who though was a common sinner, but after accepting Jesus, his sins and condemnation are washed away by the precious blood of the lamb. If we are indeed new creatures, then we cannot do the things that we used to do before we met Jesus because we are born of God and the seed of God remains in us (1 John 3:9).
Prayer point:ย
Let’s thank God for the message today. Let’s ask Him to keep us from going back to our former sinful ways in Jesus name (Amen).
