For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, โ€˜Abba, Father.โ€™
(Romans 8:15 NKJV)

ย

A little child once fell while learning to walk. Instead of staying on the ground in fear or shame, the child immediately stretched out his hands and cried, โ€œDaddy!โ€ He did not worry about how hard the fall was or who was watching. He knew one thing for sure: his father would lift him up. That simple cry was not a sign of weakness, but of trust and relationship.

In the above Scripture, Apostle Paul reveals a powerful truth about our relationship with God. He tells us that we have not received a spirit of fear or bondage, but the Spirit of adoption. Through the Holy Spirit, we are brought into Godโ€™s family and given the privilege to call Him โ€œAbba, Father.โ€ The word โ€œAbbaโ€ is deeply personal. It expresses intimacy, closeness, and affection โ€” like a child calling out โ€œDaddy.โ€

This means that as believers, we are no longer slaves living in fear of punishment, rejection, or abandonment. Fear does not come from God (2 Tim 1:7). Worry does not come from our Father. God has not called us to live anxious, troubled lives, constantly wondering what tomorrow will bring. He has called us to live as children who trust their Father completely.

When we truly understand that God is our Father, it changes how we face life. We may still encounter challenges, uncertainties, and difficulties, but we face them with confidence. A loving father does not abandon his children in times of need. How much more will our heavenly Father take care of us, guide us, and provide for us? Jesus Himself reminded us that if earthly fathers know how to give good gifts to their children, our Father in heaven knows even better what we need (Matt 7:11).

Since God is our Father, we do not need to be controlled by fear or worry. Instead of panicking, we can pray. Instead of being anxious, we can trust (Phil 4:67). Instead of running away from God in times of trouble, we can run toward Him and cry, โ€œAbba, Father.โ€ He listens. He cares. He responds.

Beloved in the Lord, let us live each day with the assurance that we are loved, adopted, and cared for by God. Do not allow fear to rule your heart. Do not allow worry to steal your peace. Trust your father. Draw closer to Him. Call on Him boldly, knowing that you belong to Him.

Prayer Point:

Let us thank God for adopting us into His family and for giving us the privilege to call Him โ€œAbba, Father.โ€ Let us ask the Lord to remove every spirit of fear and worry from our hearts and help us to trust Him fully and build a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him every day.

God bless you all!
