Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. (Psalm 29:2 KJV)

The acknowledgement of the hand of God is crucial as children of the kingdom because he is the doer of all the things in and around our lives and we are only recipients of His love.

There is a possibility to think that it is our hard work or expertise that is at play when things are working for us. This was what happened to King Nebuchadnezzar when he attributed the magnificence of his kingdom to the work of his hands (Dan. 4:30-33). He quickly learnt a lesson that no man can take the glory due unto God and he became a beast of the field for seven years before coming back to his senses and acknowledging the God behind his success and accomplishments.

Every time we take God’s glory, we open up the gate to defeat, sicknesses and all manner of unpleasantness. Herod died a shameful death in the public glare of his people after he gave that powerful last speech and the people hailed him to be a god and not a man (Acts 12:21-23). He should have not taken the glory and redirected it back to God like Daniel did who was always giving God the glory for whatever supernatural gifts he was displaying.

When the poor and the needy look in our direction for help, we do not have to see ourselves as their saviour but rather as a vessel through which God wants to use to bless them and receive glory. Our Lord Jesus when he was in the flesh demonstrated this when he raised Lazarus from the dead. He first acknowledged that his Father always hears him, pointing the people to his Father as the doer (John 11:41-42). Our lives must reflect this at all times and we must be conscious not to take God’s glory.

Let us thank God for His word today. Father, help us to always acknowledge your workings in our lives at all times.
