But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 

John 16:13

The ministry of Jesus Christ started with the Spirit and ended with the Spirit (matt 27:50). Jesus was full of the Spirit even before he was baptized by John the Baptist. We see this during the interaction between the Angel of the Lord who appeared to the Virgin Mary in the book of Luke 1:34-35, “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel,” since l am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you”. The Holy Spirit did not only fulfil His purpose by causing Mary to conceive but His power brought forth the second person of the Godhead into life, who dwelled among men.

Several scriptures in the Bible have proven Jesus coming into the earth in the likeness of sinful flesh (Romans 8:3). This form of manifestation was temporary due to His mission here on earth which was to redeem mankind from the law of sin and death into the law of the Spirit which gives life. Jesus on the account of this has condemned sin in the flesh so that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

What kind of people do we then ought to be? We ought to live and be led by the Spirit (Romans 8:14). Jesus was led by the Spirit throughout His ministry till his death, and could successfully carry out His mission on earth because of His absolute submission to the Spirit which we can see in John 14:29. Even in agony, when nailed to the cross, He endured suffering by the empowerment of the Spirit (Matthew 26:39).

A great commission has been allotted to us as followers of Christ Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20). But the good news is Jesus did not leave us as orphans but has assigned to us a coach, a helper who is in the person of the Holy Spirit. Anyone who took private lessons during school times can testify to this: taking private classes on diverse subjects for hours always come with a cost which you or your parents would have to bear the price but we have been freely given a Helper, who is willing to assist us in our earthly assignment without a cost.

In our scriptural verse, Jesus introduces the Holy Spirit who is currently at work in us. Working in corporation with the Holy Spirit will demand our consciousness of His presence in our lives as well as a persistent and continuous fellowship with Him. As the Bible reveals in 1 Corinthians 2:11, “For who knows a person`s thought except for their own spirit within them?” In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Hallelujah!

In the place of relationship and communion with the Spirit, we become more like our Creator as we spend time in His word and in prayer. My younger sister once asked me, “how would you identify those who are in the world and those who belong to God?” Beloved, we have the greatest advantage in the world to house the Spirit of God in our bodies, who does not only live in us but is actively at work in us.

Therefore, to successfully execute our Mandate as followers of Christ, spending time listening to the Spirit and following His leadership is key, most especially in these end times (1 John 2:26-27).

Prayer Point

Let´s thank God for His word. Let`s pray that God would empower the entire body of Christ to yield and lean on to His Spirit in Jesus’ name.
