Title: Are You Anointed?
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound.
(Isaiah 61:1 NKJV)
Before John the Baptist met Jesus Christ at River Jordan, he had already received a vision of the Messiah and how he could be identified. This was confirmed during the Baptism when the Holy Spirit descended like a Dove upon Jesus Christ and the Lord confirmed with a voice that He is His beloved Son (Matt 3:16-17). There had also been many prophecies foretold on what the Messiah will do when He comes (Isaiah 61). However, when Jesus Christ began His ministry, John was in prison. Therefore, John sent his disciples to Jesus Christ to confirm again if He was truly the โAnointed Oneโ. Jesus Christ told them to inform John that the blind see, the lame walkโฆ, the poor have the gospel preached to them (Luke 7:22).
There are so many things we can learn from this answer that the Lord Jesus Christ gave. He gave us the keys to identify an anointed person or one who has the power of the Holy Spirit upon him/her. My focus for today was the part where He said, โThe poor have the gospel preached to themโ. The presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a person transforms his/her life to become a fisher of men (Matt 4:19). This is one of the main reasons why the Holy Spirit was given.
The Holy Spirit was not given so that we can become rich and famous. However, Jesus Christ promised His disciples that we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, and that power will make us His Witnesses (Acts 1:8). The Holy Spirit gives us the power and boldness to preach the Gospel to every Creature. We saw this in the life of Apostle Peter who was initially afraid of men but received boldness to openly preach the Gospel after being endued with the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2).
Prophet Isaiah also confirmed that the Spirit of God upon him enabled him to preach the Gospel to the poor (Is 61). It is very important to know that the Gospel is supposed to be preached to everyone whether rich or poor, black or white, young or old, man or woman, etc. It is very sad that most Believers nowadays focus on preaching the Gospel to the rich so they can enrich themselves. We have concentrated all our Churches in the big Cities, and no one is willing to go to the Villages where the people are relatively poor.
Beloved in the Lord, the Holy Spirit gives us the power and boldness to preach the Gospel to every Creature. This can be seen in the life of the prophet Isaiah, our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Apostles. Are you anointed? Let it be known by how you preach the Gospel to everyone including the poor.
Prayer Point:
Letโs thank God for His Word today. Letโs ask the Lord to give all Believers the hunger and love to preach the Gospel to every Creature.
God bless you all!
