But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.  (James 1:22 KJV)

The truth is that it is easier to hear the word or just listen to the word. I also believe it is easier to talk about the word and even teach or preach the word. These are what the majority of Christians nowadays do. However, what’s really important and what the Lord requires of us is to be doers of the word. We have to live by the word and make sure that everything we do is in accordance with the word of God. Let’s therefore humbly allow the word of God to change and shape our lives by obeying Him and doing what He says.

It is really sad that the majority of Believers nowadays have become mere talkatives and hypocrites who don’t even practice what they preach. It seems like the Church has reclassified sinful acts to the extent that we accept some sinful acts as normal while we condemn other sinful acts. For example, divorce has become normal in the Christian community, but we have now focused all our energy and time on fighting and condemning homosexuality. There are many other examples as well. Sadly, these attitudes of modern-day Believers are driving many people out of the church.

For example, the word of God encourages us to give to the poor and help those in need, but we neglect this and rather keep all that the Lord has blessed us with. We rather take from the poor and when they are in need, we pray for them. When a brother is in need and you can help, that’s not the time for prayer but obey the word and help your brother (James 2:14). Have we really taken our time to ask ourselves why our Lord Jesus spoke more about giving to the poor than even giving to the Church?

Also, it is written that “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28)” However, a Christian who knows this scripture will not help a brother or sister because he/she is White, Black, or come from a different Country. It’s really sad that some Believers can’t even listen and accept the message from men of God of a particular race, color, or country. I believe there are many other examples we are aware of. So, let’s take time to search within our hearts and present all the areas we fall short before the Lord and He is always ready to help us live by His Word.

Beloved in the Lord let’s not just be hearers of the word deceiving ourselves but let’s live and do everything according to the word of God. In so doing, our lights will continue to shine so bright in this world and many will come to Christ. Be a doer of the word!

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let’s ask God to grant us the Grace and strength to be doers of the word.
