It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.

(Romans 14:21 NKJV)

A friend of mine once shared how he became addicted to alcohol. He was a young believer, newly born again, and in the early stages of spiritual growth. One day, his head pastor invited him to his home. When he arrived, he saw the pastor drinking alcohol. Out of curiosity, he asked why he was drinking. The pastor casually responded that it was how he liked to spend his weekends. My friend adopted the same habit and began drinking every weekend. Eventually, he became addicted and started abusing it.

Many believers today claim they have freedom in Christ and therefore do not care what others think of them. To justify their behavior, they often say they only care about what God thinks. Yet, these same people live carelessly, doing things contrary to the Word of God.

The Bible makes it clear that we are all ambassadors of Christ (2 Cor 5:20). As His representatives on earth, we are expected to reflect His character through our conduct (Matt 5:16). Just as the actions of a nation’s ambassador can affect the image and reputation of their country — even leading to conflict — our actions can either attract people to God’s Kingdom or push them away. On the other hand, our good conduct can draw many to Christ.

Therefore, let us ensure our way of life aligns with God’s Word and that our actions glorify Him. Mature believers especially must be mindful not to cause younger believers to stumble or fall away. Let’s be patient and compassionate, correcting them gently and in love.

Moreover, there are certain things that may be permissible, but out of consideration for the understanding of newer believers, mature believers are encouraged to refrain from them. This helps maintain peace within the body of Christ and prevents others from stumbling (Rom 14:21; 1 Cor 8:13).

Beloved in the Lord, we are all ambassadors of Christ here on earth. Let us be careful that our actions do not bring dishonor to His name and Kingdom. Instead, let our lives be marked by peace, love, and actions that bring glory to God.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let us pray and ask the Lord to help all believers live lives that bring peace and love within the Kingdom, and glory to Him.

God bless you all.
