For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Some time ago, I had a conversation with a brother in the Lord, during which I shared a vision I had with him. I told him it would be best if we collaborated with believers from a different denomination to organize regular outreaches, where the Gospel would be preached, and souls would be drawn into the Kingdom.

To my surprise, he told me that some members of that denomination had offended him in the past, and so he couldn’t work with them. He said he is a “principled man,” and therefore, if someone disrespects him, he will never associate with them again. He also raised concerns about which denomination the new believers would attend. Honestly, I was really disappointed in him. This is a brother I expected to know and act better, especially considering his many years in the faith.

That was when I realized how necessary it is for the Church to grow into spiritual maturity. The Lord Jesus Christ promised that we would do greater works than He did (Jn 14:12). But I believe that until the Church matures spiritually, we won’t even be able to do what He did—let alone greater works. We are joint heirs with Christ and have a rich inheritance in the Kingdom (Rom 8:17). However until we mature, we won’t truly understand or know how to access what we possess (Gal 4:1).

One major characteristic of immature believers is that they are often led by their flesh, desires, and emotions (Gal 5:16). When we come to Christ, He does not expect us to remain as babies or children in the faith forever (1 Pet 2:2, Heb 5:12). Instead, He expects us to grow, renew our minds, and be led by the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:14).

Some believers think being led by the Spirit is something complicated—like you need to be transformed into a different realm or always hear an audible voice from God. But the truth is that God speaks in diverse ways, and not always through an audible voice.

One of the simplest and most practical ways to be led by the Spirit is by obeying the Word of God. For example, someone may offend you and your emotions may want you to retaliate. But a son of God chooses to obey the Word, endure the pain, and forgive.

Beloved in the Lord, when we come to Christ, He expects us to grow and be led by the Holy Spirit—not by our flesh, desires, or emotions. We can be led by the Spirit by knowing and obeying the Word of God. Let’s therefore spend time growing in the Word and be determined to be doers of it. This is because all of creation is eagerly waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God—those who are led by the Holy Spirit.

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask the Lord to help all Believers to mature and be always led by the Holy Spirit.
