In everything give thanks:ย for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
(1Th 5:18 KJV)
Welcome to a new month! How quickly is the year drawing close? At this time, a lot of people will be evaluating the year: if it was a successful one or not. No matter the outcome of your evaluation, there is always a reason to be thankful.
Thanksgiving is a way of expressing worship towards God and to acknowledge Him for His goodness (Hosea 6:6); Most of the ceremonial offerings and sacrifices instructed by God in the law were there to instill the attitude of thanksgiving in the hearts of the Israelites. Though Israel misunderstood them to be a means of receiving blessings and forgiveness from Him, but from Godโs correction to them in Hosea 6:6, we see that what God was looking for was acknowledgement (a recognition for being the source of the blessings and forgiveness He has already given). The same is true for us in the new, for weโve been commanded to give thanks for all things (1Th 5:18 KJV).
For us to be thankful, there are certain things we must know with understanding. The first thing we need to know is thatย โGod makes all things work together for the good of them that love Him (Romans 8:28)โ. Though this may be hard to see in the time of the discomforting experience, it is true. For example, Joseph was forcefully sold as a slave by those who should love and protect him (Gen. 37:12-36). Beyond that, He was falsely accused by his slave masterโs wife (from bad to worse right?). We see from the end of His story, despite things looked bad in the natural, God used all he experienced to lead him to a place where his gifts were recognized and he found favour with Pharaoh. Again, his exaltation led to the preservation of Egypt and the old world, including the lives of those who betrayed him. From his story, we see that God is never far away, even in our bad moments. And as He did for Joseph, He will do for you. So be thankful.
Another reason why we need to be thankful is that the bad situation we experience is many times a test of our faith. We need to know that thanksgiving is the greatest proof of faith. The greatest miracles Jesus performed were done after He gave thanks (Johnย 6:1-15,ย 11:1โ44). With this known, a test of faith is also a test of thanksgiving. We can see this in the life of the children of Israel when God used Moses to deliver them from Egypt. In the time of their sojourn in the wilderness, God many times tested them by allowing them to experience lack. Their attitude in those times was one of complaint and murmuring, which attracted judgments to them. At the point that they learnt the fear of God, they responded differently, for Numbers 21:16-20 reported how God gave them water without them asking for it. What use is complaining when you can give thanks?ย
God knows your needs before you ask (Matt 6:8). For God to allow a season of lack or an evil experience to occur, itโs not because He is unable to provide or able to stop the evil experience from happening, but He is watching your attitude towards Him in those times of contradictions. So instead of mourning and crying over an unpleasant situation, we can respond by thanking God. This will be very pleasing to God, for it is an act of faith and trust in Him. HAPPY NEW MONTH EVERYONE.
Prayer Point:
Letโs thank God for His word today. Letโs also ask Him to help everyone believer to be thankful no matter the situation they are in.
God bless you all
