Title: Believers Keys to Shining Their Light

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

(Matthew 5:16 NKJV)

In the previous weeks, we have seen that the world is full of darkness, and this is therefore the time for Christians, who are the light of the world to arise and shine their lights. Our lord Jesus Christ is the hope of this current world. It is therefore the duty of every Christian to manifest Christ in the world through the way we live. When we do so, many unbelievers will be drawn into our light and give their life to Christ. It is very sad that upon all the darkness in the world, only a few Christians shine their light nowadays. I would like to share some keys that will help Believers to be able to shine their light.

The first key is to make sure that you are Born Again. This is because Jesus Christ is the light and the source of our light, and we need Christ in us in order to shine our light (John 1, John 8:12). That’s why we Christians, who have Christ in us are the light of the world and not everyone in the world. It is very important to know that being a member of a congregation or being born into a Christian family or knowing and reciting popular Christian-Jargons doesn’t make you a Christian. One has to repent, believe, accept and confess Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and personal savior in order to be Born Again.

We should also abide continually in Christ, who is the source and power of our light (John 15:5). We do so by spending regular time in the presence of the Lord studying and meditating on the word and in prayer. The more we abide in Christ, the brighter our light will shine in the world. If we don’t abide continually in Christ, we won’t have the power and ability to shine our light consistently in the world. Our light will go “ON and OFF”; today we will be shining our light so bright and tomorrow our light won’t be shining.

Obedience to the Lord and His Word is also a key to shining our light in the world. When we spend regular time in the presence of God and receive instructions but do not obey and practice them, we can’t make any impact in the world (James 1:22). We have to therefore learn from our Lord Jesus and always obey the Lord as He did (Phil 2:8). There may be some instructions which our minds can’t comprehend at that moment, but we must still trust the Lord that He knows best and obey them accordingly.

Last but not the least, we must be sensitive and be led by the Holy Spirit at all times. Those who are led by the Spirit are the true Children of God, and they are the ones the whole creation is awaiting (Rom 8:14, 19). The Holy Spirit empowers us to do the work of the Lord and live for Jesus on this earth (Acts 1:8). When we are sensitive to the Holy Spirit, we will know when, where and how to shine our light in every situation in order have great impact in the world.

Beloved in the Lord, the world is in darkness, but we are the light of the world because we have Christ in us. Therefore, we can’t keep our light or cover them for the world to remain in darkness. We have to let our light shine before men, that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. Let’s go and brighten the world!

Let’s thank God for His Word. Let’s ask the Lord to help all Believers around the world to shine their lights so bright that many will see our good works and glorify His name. Let’s ask the Lord to help us to always abide in Christ, obey Him and be led by the Holy Spirit.
