Title: Benefits of Walking in the Fear of God

“O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!” ย Deuteronomy 5:29 KJV
Many years ago, I encountered our opening scripture for today’s call to prayer, and I felt God’s emotions and saw His heart regarding why He wants us to fear Him. Everything God does is for our benefit, including His instruction for us to fear Him. Today, we will explore some benefits of fearing the Lord.
For those who fear the Lord, there is maximum provision. Scripture says in Psalm 34:9, “Fear the LORD, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing” (NIV). This provision isn’t just limited to finances but extends to every area of life. Though God may sometimes test those who fear Him for a while, like He did with Job, He does this to reveal their fear of Him and to expand them (increase their spiritual capacity).
Also, Psalm 25:14 states, “The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him; and He will show them His covenant” (NIV). God reveals His secrets and gives special knowledge to those who fear Him. Not everything is written in scripture (Deuteronomy 29:29, John 21:25), but God grants those who fear Him knowledge beyond what is written, and He helps them understand what is written. Some years ago, the Lord and two of His angels visited me, and He said to me, “There are people I love, I show them all I create”. These are the people who fear and love Him (see John 14:21).
Again, those who fear the Lord have access to angelic assistance and protection. Psalm 34:7 states, “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them” (NIV). The word “encamps” comes from the Hebrew word “chรขnรขh,” implying a military formation around a city for its protection and deliverance. It was this dimension that the servant of Elisha saw after Elisha prayed that God would open his eyes to see that there are more with them than the enemy attacking them (see 2 Kings 6:16-17).
Furthermore, those who fear the Lord have access to mercy. Luke 1:50 states, “His mercy extends to those who fear Him, from generation to generation.” Everyone makes mistakes, but God’s mercy is guaranteed for those who fear Him, and mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:13).
The Scripture is filled with blessings attributed to those who fear the Lord. I have written the few above to encourage you to fear the Lord.
