ย That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
ย And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice. (Genesis 22:17-18)
Abraham’s attitude by heeding to divine instructions of God to sacrifice his only son was not just an act of selflessness but also genuine obedience that had decorated him with unlimited blessings in all that he was doing. In fact, he became the first model of obedience by virtue of submission, when God first called him in Genesis chapter 17, he did not doubt or question God’s covenant and promises rather he submitted wholly to God by following whatever instructions that subsequently was given to him. Obedience is a righteous virtue that makes us comply to command, instruction, guidelines, message etc without necessarily challenging their intention or origin. These may be revealed through vision, dreams, prophecy, revelations or while in deep prayers.
God Almighty is so pleased with us when we obey Him in all things. He demands that we listen and hear Him submissively and above all, be willing and obedient to execute His will. He is most kind by giving us a choice, God never imposes Himself on any unwilling person, despite the fact that He is the most powerful and the greatest. However, if we Obey and do that which He expects us to do, by default, His blessing are there for us to enjoy. Knowledge of truth and numerous answers to our great questions come to us as we are humble and obedient to the commandments of God. There are examples of outright disobedience by some people in the Bible who neglected the message of warning and prophecy that was delivered to them and it eventuallyย ended badly for them.
Saul was rejected by God as King of Israel because he disobeyed the Lord by not fulfilling His command to utterly destroy the Amalekites and all their animals, instead, he spared the animals and the King in order to sacrifice to God but Samuel told him “to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:12-23). Eli too was one of the people who took the message of God lightly when he was told of His children desecrating the sanctuary of God by sleeping with women and taking the meats meant for sacrifice to God. The Lord does not want us to follow the steps of them that refused to hearken to His voice. Today, God speaks to us through the Holy spirit. We ought to discern and carry out whatever He says without hesitation or considering ego/personal status.

Let’s thank God for today and let’s ask God to grant us the willingness to always obey Him
