Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matt. 7:24 BSB

ย

In the beginning, Adam and Eve were given an option on who they will like to serve. This option came in the form of a commandment: but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die (Gen. 2:17). After God commanded them, the devil also spoke, encouraging them to go against the word of God (Gen. 3:5). By that, Adam and Eve were left to decide who to obey, God or the devil. Sadly, they chose the devilโ€™s suggestion and became his servant, for “…. whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that oneโ€™s slaves whom you obey (Rom. 6:16)”.

After mankind yielded themselves to the devil and became his subject, mankind was unable to do right, for every imagination of his heart became evil from his youth (Gen. 6:5). Mankind became a tool for the devilโ€™s use. However, thanks to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, every Christian has been delivered from the dominion of the devil the moment we gave our lives to God, for we have been translated from the kingdom (dominion) of darkness to the kingdom (dominion) of light (Col. 1:13). This means we have been empowered by God to do right.

Satan is called the devil because of his incessant nature: he doesnโ€™t give up. Despite his defeat, he tries all means to dominate Christians. Having lost all his power over a believer, what he does is to act deceptively to trick believers to do his will. One way he achieves this is to transform himself into an angel of light (2 Cor. 11:14). He does this by imitating God to us. The devil having access to the physical and spiritual realm, means we should not build our lives based on what we feel, or what we see or hear in the spirit realm. But all things must be proven by the word, accepting the good and rejecting the evil (1 John 4:1, Isaiah 7:14).

With the above known, because you have heard or seen a vision, it does mean you have heard or seen from God. At this point, I will share a story. In his book titled โ€œThe Name of Jesusโ€, Kenneth E. Hagin wrote a story of a minister of God who was sick. Over time, this sick minister of God saw a vision of a man in bright clothing, who told him it wasnโ€™t Godโ€™s will for him to be healed. This minister believed what he heard, which affected his faith to receive healing. But we know that it is Godโ€™s will for us to receive healingย  โ€œfor by His stripes we have been healed (1 Pe. 2:24)โ€. Again, we saw how the devil tried to make Jesus Christ do things against Godโ€™s will by speaking to him (Matt. 4:1-11, Luke 4:2-14). Now, if the devil can attempt to deceive Jesus, he can attempt to deceive you too.

The way to overcome the deceptive trick of the enemy is by building our lives on the word, and not on the manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit, nor the reputation of men. We build our lives on the word by believing and obeying only what is consistent with the word (Matt. 7: 24,27).

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His word. Let us also ask Him to help us build our lives on the word and enable us to recognize what is of Him and what is not.
