And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. (Revelation 5:10 KJV)

The Spirit of the King is a rare one. It is the spirit of boldness, courage, compassion, wisdom, brutality, judgment and justice. When Saul was chosen, he lacked many of these characteristics, and to compound it, he was timid, shy and fearful, all of which denotes the attitude of a broken servant. God had to intervene by divine providence and gave him another heart. This is not usually the protocol. The normal way was for God to plant him in a place where he would learn these things, and God would then use him when the time was right, just as He did with Moses and David. All that training was for building and transforming their mind. The King Nebuchadnezzar specifically requested for children who had wisdom and could stand in the presence of the king (Dan. 1:4). So, the king carries an aura, and it is felt by all who come into his presence.

In our days, there are plenty of resources that can transform the mind into a strong tool for God’s use. There are coaching resources from godly counsellors and trainers that we can tap into. There are books to read,ย  you can volunteer in a place or an area where you believe God is calling you, and you gain mastery by learning. All I am saying is, God has been bringing these resources your way, but you have not been tapping into them, so He can’t use you in those areas because you have not gained knowledge and mastery. Saul’s case was exceptional because of the time constraints, but whatever shortcomings you have identified, after praying about it, take positive action to be better because a broken vessel cannot retain water.

We have been called to be priests and kings, and since it is a marriage of these two offices, it requires a good blend of alignment with God and the aforementioned characteristics of kings. David was one of the few patriarchs in the scriptures who embodied this grace because he went through the palace to serve, and God also taught him warfare as a shepherd boy. We, therefore, need to take personal growth and development very seriously if we are to become what God truly wants us to become, rule and reign in our God ordained assignments and purposes.

Prayer point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let us pray for the Lord to give the heart of a king so we can rule over the domains God is placing us over.
