I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

(Ecclesiastes 1:14 NKJV)

Our head pastor once shared a sobering story about a close friend who had passed away. After arriving in Europe, this friend decided to pause his commitment to serving the Lord. When others tried to encourage him to stay faithful, he replied that he wanted to first focus on work and secure financial stability to obtain his residence permit. He eventually achieved that goal. But just a few months later, he began suffering from headaches. He was taken to the hospitalโ€”but sadly, he didnโ€™t make it.

As human beings, we often become consumed with the pursuit of earthly possessions. We envy, betray, and mistreat others just to attain what we want. But the reality is this: we will leave everything behind (Eccl 3:2). Someone else will one day enjoy the fruit of your labour. Thatโ€™s why Scripture describes this pursuit as grasping for the wind (Eccl 1:14).

Nowโ€”while you still have life and strengthโ€”is the time to build a strong relationship with the Lord and serve Him faithfully. There is a time for everything: a time to be born and a time to die (Ecclesiastes 3). Donโ€™t put your job, goals, or pleasures before your relationship with God. It is appointed unto man to die once, and after that comes judgment (Heb 9:27).

Iโ€™m reminded of something the actor Denzel Washington once said: โ€œI donโ€™t care about the Oscarsโ€”because when I stand before God, that wonโ€™t help me.โ€ How true that is. In the end, only your relationship with the Lord and what you did for His Kingdom will matter (Mark 8:36).

Beloved in the Lord, spending your entire life chasing after earthly things is like chasing the windโ€”because you cannot take them with you. Let us instead pursue intimacy with the Lord, live for His glory, and serve Him wholeheartedly. One day, when we stand before Him, may He call us good and faithful servants.

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His Word today. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to help all men to build a good relationship with Him and serve Him faithfully.

God bless you all.
