Title: Christ Our Passover

Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.ย  (1 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV)

ย

When the Lord asked Moses to deliver the people of Israel from Egypt, Pharaoh’s heart was hardened and didnโ€™t want them to leave. The Lord demonstrated His Power and caused many Plagues to befall the Land. In the end, the Lord decided to pass through the city in the night and strike all the firstborns of the Egyptianโ€™s children and animals to death. He instructed the Israelites to kill a Lamb and mark their homes with its blood so that their homes would be spared. They did exactly as the Lord instructed and their firstborns were spared while those of the Egyptians were killed (Ex 12).

In the same way, we have all sinned and didnโ€™t meet the righteous standard of God (Rom 3:23). Through Adam, sin entered this world and all his descendants born through a man and a woman coming together automatically became sinners (Rom 5:12). Just like the Egyptians, we deserved to be punished for our sins. We deserved to die and suffer eternal damnation in hell as a penalty for our sins (Rom 6:23).

However, Jesus Christ offered Himself as a Lamb and was sacrificed. The blood that He poured out on the cross of Calvary has taken away our sins and the eternal death that we deserved. May His name be forever glorified! Therefore, as New Testament Believers, Jesus Christ is our Passover Lamb (1 Cor 5:7).

He Himself didnโ€™t do anything wrong but He came willingly to earth out of love for you and me to save us (Jn 3:16). John the Baptist knew exactly who the Lord Jesus was when He came to be baptized. As soon as he saw Him coming, he said, โ€œBehold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!โ€ (Jn 1:29).

He has already done the work for us and paid all the price. Now all that one has to do to receive eternal life and be saved from eternal damnation is to believe in Him and confess Him as his/her Lord and savior (Rom 10:9-10). This is the good news! However, there are so many people who havenโ€™t heard this.

Most people in the world donโ€™t know how much God loves them. They think God is angry with them and hates them because of their sins. It is therefore the responsibility of every Believer to share this good news with those in the world. It may sound foolish to some, but it is the power of God unto salvation (1 Cor 1:18, Rom 1:16).

Beloved in the Lord, the firstborns of the Israelites were spared in Egypt through the blood of Lambs. However, as New Testament Believers, Jesus Christ is our Passover Lamb. The blood that He shed on the cross of Calvary has taken away our sins and the eternal death that we deserved. That sacrifice on the cross is the best thing that has ever happened to me. What about you?

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His word today. Letโ€™s thank God once again for giving us His only begotten son as a sacrifice for our sins.

God bless you all
