โ€œThe light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6: 22 -23 KJV

Yesterday, I wrote about the importance of sight, where I stated that seeing into the spirit realm will enable us to know the spirit behind a manifestation, which will inform us on how to pray. I also stated that when we see spiritually, then we can access patterns and manuscripts of our lives and ministry and build accordingly. Today, I am going to be talking about having a clear vision.

While He walked this earth, Jesus Christ spoke in-depth about having a clear vision with His disciples. In Matthew 6:22, he said, “If your eyes be single, thy whole body shall be full of light“. The word “single” was translated from the Greek word “haplous“, which figuratively means “clear“. So the entire conversation was about having a clear vision. Now, to have clear vision, we have to avoid having an evil eye. Then, the question should be, what’s an evil eye? An evil eye is an idiomatic expression that suggests one with an impure motive. The eye of our heart becomes evil (darkened) when jealousy, envy, wickedness etc reside in it.

To discern this, let’s consider the story Jesus told about the workers who became angry when the Landowners decided to pay those he employed last same as the others. The Landowner said, “Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?“. Their eyes became evil because they were offended. Any time we are offended by the acts of God in the life of another, our spiritual eyes become darkened. This is why the Bible admonished us not to compare ourselves with ourselves (Gal. 6:4-10).

Lust is another thing that darkens the eyes. It was said in scriptures, “He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him (Prov. 28:22)“. Lust can be towards, money, food or sex etc. To have clear vision, we need to avoid anything that will contaminate the purity of our hearts. Praying that God would purify our hearts helps in this desire to have a clear vision.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to purify our hearts so we can have a clear vision.
