7ย To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honorย and immortality,ย he will give eternal life.ย 8ย But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.ย  Romans 2: 7- 9

As we all know, we are in the last days before the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and one of the warnings we receive from the Lord is that “12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” Matthew 24:12-13. Jesus also warns that “At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,” Mathew 24:10. So we must continue to walk in love and not lose our salvation. But how do we stand firm to the end?

In our opening verses, Apostle Paul continues to echo the warnings of our Lord Jesus using other words. He warns us to continue in doing good till the end to be saved. Now, comparing it to an exam, it is like a very high mark has been set to pass, say above 80% for how do you continue to love when what you experience is an increase of wickedness.

Now some one may take the requirements they have heard above and just try to run with it without getting the whole counsel which is in the word of God. Yes, God wants us to walk in love even amid the increased wickedness, but we cannot do it without faith in Jesus(John 15:5). We can not walk in love if we don’t abide in the word of God and fellowship with Him in prayer. For He is the one who can give us the strength to continue to walk in Love through the Holy Spirit. That’s why scriptures say salvation is by faith (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9), and at the same time, it says to walk in love to be saved. The two are the same. Although one precedes the other. Grace comes through faith in Jesus. For no one can love without the help of the author of love Himself.

So as the world gets colder, let’s draw nearer to the fire of God’s love so we can obtain grace to burn brighter in a dark world. And remember God turns any wicked thing He allows you to experience for your good if you continue to trust Him and not pay back evil with evil but rather overcome evil with good (Romans 8:28, Romans 12:21).

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for this word today. Let’s pray for God to help us abide in His word and fellowship with the Holy Spirit, who is God in us.
