And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: [5] Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth ( Matthew 13:4-5 KJV)

In every kingdom, what marks their identity and extent of their jurisdiction is the territory they control or occupy. This refers primarily to the land. In our scripture reading today, we see how a strong emphasis was made about the different textures of the land and the results produced in each place as the sower went about sowing his seeds. The sower was diligently doing all he can but the ground was a key factor in determining the harvest.

In this devotional, we shall be focusing on the seeds sown on stony places with little earth. This is gradually becoming the picture in many evangelism and mission outreaches. The grounds have become hard and stony that many have become comfortable in believing the lie of the devil that God is either not powerful or doesnโ€™t exist. They will even boldly say that they are not โ€œreligiousโ€. Their hearts have been made into stony grounds and they are not interested in receiving the goodnews.

This will require an intervention of heavenly construction workers to till, dig and water it under the Lordship of the Lord of harvest to turn it into a fruitful field. This is done in prayers by asking the Lord to send his labourers into the field because the harvest is truly great (Luke 10:2). We must always precede evangelism with prayers so that the Holy ghost will prepare the ground for the seed of the word to enter and convict sinners to repentance.

Prayer point:

Let us thank God for His word today. Let us ask for grace to labour in prayers for souls to be saved in stony territories.
