And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32 KJV)

The Gospel (the Good News) is simply a declaration of that which Christ has accomplished. And this accomplishment can be called deliverance, for He has delivered humanity from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of God (Col. 1:13). Therefore, the Gospel is a declaration of the news that we have been delivered. Now, why are Christians still undergoing situations that suggests they are still bound?

Man has a tripartite nature, for he has a spirit, a soul, and a body (1 Thes. 5:23). When man sinned at Eden, the spirit of man was separated from God (which is spiritual death), and he became bound to sin (John 8:34). This death of the human spirit also brought death to the state of his soul and the body, for he eventually died physically. The work of Christ at the cross of Calvary meant the the price for the sins of mankind has been paid, and man has been set free from bondage to the enemy. This reality initially only exist in the spirit of those who believe the Gospel. The state of the soul or the body may not necessarily change immediately you give your life to Christ.

The experience that makes many Christians to seek deliverance is because of the state of the soul and the body (not the spirit). For despite the spirit is saved, the soul is still being saved and the body will be saved. The salvation of the soul happens as we humbly accept the word (James 1:21), and the salvation of the body will be fulfilled when our mortal bodies is clothed with immortality at His second coming (1Cor. 15:53). However, we were instructed to work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12-13). This means that it is our responsibility to ensure that the deliverance that is a reality in our spirit be reflective in the state of our soul and the state of our bodies.

We work out our salvation by living based on the truth of what Christ has done for us and not by the state of our soul or body, despite the lying symptoms we may feel. That is, as you affirm the deliverance Christ as accomplish in you and you abide in that truth, the truth of Christ will set your soul and body free from the lying contradictions (John 8:32).

Prayer Point.

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us live by the truth of the word
