Title: Disunity in the Body of Christ

For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.

ย (1 Corinthians 12:12 NKJV)

The whole Body of Christ is trying to understand the word that the Lord gave to us through the Prophets and Apostles, inspired by the Holy Spirit (1 Tim 3:16). So far as we are Christians trying to interpret the word of God, there will always be differences in interpretation or understanding of certain topics. Thatโ€™s why we have different Denominations like Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, etc.

For example, some people believe in once saved, forever saved while others believe that one can lose his/her salvation. Some also believe that when one dies (Physically), he/she will remain dead until Resurrection, when Christ returns but some believe that the Spirit goes directly to Heaven or hell. There are many of such disagreements in the Church.

Upon all these disagreements, what all Christians have in common is our belief in Jesus Christ as our savior. This is what binds all of us together. The word of God makes us understand that all Believers form the Body of Christ. Just as the human body is made up of different parts, we may have different functions or responsibilities and interpretations, yet we are all one in Christ (1 Cor 12:12). Therefore, just as the different parts of the human body work together, we must also work together towards a common goal.

However, there are so many divisions in the Body of Christ nowadays. Churches are fighting one another, Pastors are fighting one another, and members are envying and fighting one another. A Pastor becomes envious of another when he/she sees that another Church is experiencing growth. There are people in one denomination who are not in good terms or donโ€™t associate with those who belong to another denomination. We are destroying one another and causing so much harm to ourselves to the extent that we have made the work of the evil one easier for him.

I believe that one of the reasons why there is so much jealousy and envy in the Body of Christ is that most Christians donโ€™t really know what they are called to do. Due to this, if we see a Believer excelling in the area of his/her calling, we get jealous. However, if you know what you are called to do, you will rather focus on fulfilling it and be happy for those who are also excelling in their fields. We donโ€™t have to compare ourselves to anyone because we are not in competition with one another. We are all working towards a common goal. At the end, we will all stand before the Lord, and He will reward us according to how we fulfilled our individual assignments and not how we outperformed one another.

We have allowed the differences in understanding or interpretation to separate us rather than focusing on what binds us together. The most important thing is that Christ binds all of us together. Letโ€™s therefore ignore all our differences and work together by focusing on what we have in common, our Faith in Christ Jesus.

Beloved in the Lord, there are so many things that can separate us as Christians. However, there is one common thing that binds all of us together: our Faith in Jesus Christ. Letโ€™s therefore focus on this and work together towards the establishment of our Lordโ€™s Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven as we look forward to the glorious appearing of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for giving us Jesus Christ. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to help every Believer to be conscious of the fact that we are all one in Christ. Letโ€™s also pray for unity in the Body of Christ, that we will become one as the Father, Son and Spirit are one.
