โ€œAnyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, likeย a personย who builds a house on solid rock. But anyone who hears my teaching andย doesnโ€™tย obey it is foolish, likeย a personย who builds a house on sand. ย โ€ญโ€ญMatthewโ€ฌ โ€ญ7:24โ€ฌ, 26NLTโ€ฌโ€ฌ

Throughout the scriptures, we find the question,ย Who shall ascend to the holy mountain?”ย (Psalms 15:1, 24:3). The termย “Holy Mountain”ย symbolizes the presence of God.ย The reasonย “mountain”ย is usedย isย to help us understand thatย God’sย presence is a solid foundation.

Building on the Holy Mountain (the presence of God) means that theย structureย being builtย will stand the test of time and withstand theย trials of life. After Jesus preached the message on the mount (Matthew 5-7), He mentioned that two foundations exist: the solid rock (or the mountain top) and sand (Matthew 7:24-26). Heย went on to revealย that structures built on both foundations will face the same tests (the testing of the rain, the flood, and the wind, which will beat upon the building).

Only the structure built on the solid rock will stand after theย period of testing.ย A building here representsย the life of a person,ย a ministry, a marriage, or aย business.ย Many marriages and businesses fail because theyย weren’tย builtย on solid ground. God loves all and desires that those whose structuresย are builtย on sandย be repositionedย to the mountain top. And the way to it is sincere repentance and obedience to the instructions of God.

When the Bible says,ย Who shall ascend to the Holy mount?ย (Psalm 15:1), it reveals that the peopleย being addressedย weren’tย on the Holy Mountain, andย a call for repositioning was made. The criteria given for people who will ascend (who willย be repositioned) in Psalms 15 and 24 are character attributes that will manifest as we obey the instructions of God.ย Thisย was the emphasis ofย Jesus’ย teaching in Matthew 5-7.

What foundation is your building (life, ministry, marriage, business, etc.) standing on? On the mountain top or miry clay (sand)? Ifย it’sย on miry clay, God desires to reposition you. The key to it is obedience to the word of God.

Prayer Point:

Let’sย thank the Lord for His word today.ย Let’s ask Him to help all believers yield in obedience to Him.
