So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.  (1 Samuel 15:22 NKJV)

There was a time that the Lord instructed King Saul to kill all the Amalekites and destroy all their possessions. However, when he went to Amalek, he captured their King and also brought back animals and other possessions from the land. When the Lord through Prophet Samuel asked him why he did that, he replied that he wanted to offer those animals as sacrifice to the Lord. The Lord replied that, “to obey Him is better than sacrifice”. That was when the Lord rejected Saul and decided to replace him with David (1 Sam 15).

The truth is that the Lord gives us instructions and assignments all the time. He may instruct us through His written or spoken word. We may not fully understand all the things that the Lord asks us to do at the beginning. This is because His ways are not our ways, and neither are His thoughts like ours (Is 55:8). Let’s however obey Him even though we don’t understand.

Let’s obey the Lord regardless! We will understand in the end. Most Believers sometimes disobey the Lord and follow their ways because they think their ways are right or better than God’s in that situation. It may seem so in the beginning but in the end, their ways will lead them to failure, disappointment, and destruction (Prov 14:12).

There was also a time that the Ark of Covenant was placed on a cart and was being transferred to Jerusalem. On their way, the animals pulling the cart stumbled and the Ark was about to fall and so Uzzah held it. He was instantly struck to death (2 Sam 6). One may think that the Lord was wicked and unjust for killing a man who was just trying to help. However, the Lord had already instructed that no one should touch the Ark which was holy lest he/she dies (Num 4:15). This instruction was to be obeyed regardless of the situation.

Beloved in the Lord, let’s obey the Lord regardless of the situation and do everything according to His ways and not ours. This is because His ways and thoughts are far greater than ours. Also, we know that He loves us and all His plans for us are for our own good: to give us a future and a hope and to cause all things to work together for our good (Jer 29:11, Rom 8:28). Do it God’s way!

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let’s ask the Lord to help all Believers around the world to obey Him regardless of the situation.

God bless you  all!
