Title โย Do not be intimidated
1st Samuel 17:5-7 ย He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. 6 And he had bronze armour on his legs, and a javelin of bronze slung between his shoulders. 7 The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. And his shield-bearer went before him.
Currently, with the things going on in the world, it is easy to be intimidated by situations, lose hope and give up. The rippling effects of the ongoing war in Ukraine are being felt around the world. Family separation, loss of lives, humanitarian crisis, and many others. The key effect for the world is the rising cost of fuel prices. All these things can cause fear and panic and even intimidate the most committed child of God. However, fear should not be in the dictionary of the child of God. In the Bible, we have numerous examples of potentially intimidating situations that challenged the children of God, but whenever they looked beyond the situation to their God, they had victory. Today, we will consider one of such situations.
In our verse for today, we read of Goliath’s appearance in the battle against Israel. The height of this man was six cubits and a span equivalent to 11.35 feet (3.46 m). From our verses, we read that he was well-covered, from head to toe leaving no room for attacks. His coat alone weighed about 57kg. Why the figures? It helps us to understand how well-prepared this giant was. I can imagine how worrying and intimidating the sight of him may have been for all Israel except one person, David.
The enemy has a way of presenting situations to intimidate the children of God and make them lose focus on what God has done, is doing and can do. The sickness, financial difficulties, marital issues, spiritual slackness can all appear as Goliaths to try to intimidate you. However, I would encourage you to look past the giant and keep your focus on the almighty God. Only believe! He has done it before, and He will do it again. Do not be intimidated.
Prayer:
Let us thank God for His word today and the answers to all our prayers. Let us also pray for greater faith not to be intimidated by the things happening around us.
