Title: Do You Love The Lord?

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

(1 John 5:3 NKJV)

When our Lord Jesus was captured and crucified, most of His Disciples abandoned Him and went back to their old ways. Simon Peter whom the Lord had previously changed his profession from a Fisherman to a โ€œFisher of menโ€, and even received revelation that Jesus is the son of the living God, also went back fishing with the other Disciples. After resurrection, our Lord Jesus appeared to His Disciples, and He asked Simon Peter this question three times: โ€œDo you love me?โ€. Simon Peter was even getting irritated at some point, but he responded that he did love the Lord (John 21).

I believe that the Lord is asking us the same question today. What will be your response? Donโ€™t be quick to answer but examine yourself first. I believe that every Christian should take regular time to examine himself or herself whether he/she really loves the Lord. This is because after becoming a Christian for some time, some of the activities or things you will be doing can become repetitive or religious. We therefore need to always take time to ask ourselves why we do the things we do. Do we do them out of the love we have for the Lord or out of our own selfish ambitions or motives?

If you ask any Christian this question, the quick response will always be, โ€œYes, I doโ€. However, what really shows that we love the Lord? We can learn something from what our Lord Jesus told Simon Peter. He told him that if he really loves Him as he claims, he should show it by feeding and caring for His Lambs and Sheep (John 21:15-17). This should tell us that our love for God is not in what we say or the love songs we sing to Him, but it is revealed in what we do.

The word of God makes us understand that loving the Lord is obeying His Word and Commandments (John 14:21-24, 1 John 2:3-5, 1 John 5:3). There are some general commandments that the Lord has given to all Christians. One of them is โ€œThe Great Commissionโ€ which we have already discussed. He has also commanded us to love one another (John 15:12). There are also some specific instructions or assignments that the Lord gives to every Christian. When we obey these instructions or assignments and do them accordingly irrespective of the consequences, thatโ€™s what shows that we really love the Lord.

Beloved in the Lord, now that we know what it means to love the Lord, letโ€™s take some time to examine ourselves and make the necessary adjustments so we can conclude with all boldness that we truly love the Lord. Letโ€™s not forget that when we love the Lord, He will love us the more and manifest Himself to us (John 14:21).

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His word today. Letโ€™s ask the Lord to help all Christians around the world to bear the Fruit of Love for Him, and for one another. Letโ€™s also ask Him to help us to obey His Word and Commandments.

God bless you all.
