Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? (2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV)

Recently, I was having a conversation with a senior friend and he was lamenting on how decadence has crept into the life of believers so much so that some people in courtship cohabit and no longer see fornication as a big deal but still go about their daily business as usual after engaging in such great sin without feeling any guilt. These are the people the bible refers to as reprobates.

The reprobate does immoral and unethical things without any sense of guilt or remorse because their heart have been seared with the hot iron of defiance. To be a reprobate is very dangerous for the Christian faith and the society we live in because your actions are not a reflection of the standards of God.

In our text today, Apostle Paul was talking to the Corinthian church on this subject matter and how not to become complacent by checking themselves to see if they are still in the faith. It is important to note that light and darkness cannot exist together and one of them will have to rule over the other. Therefore, in the case of a believer with a reprobate mind, darkness has already taken over.

Some even say, my conscience does not judge me. How will a dead conscience condemn when it is no longer active to the Spirit of God? However, there is an admonition to us as believers in 1 John 3:9 which says;

” Whosoever is born of God cannot commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God”

In conclusion, If you notice you are doing any immoral or unethical thing without the Holy Spirit registering his displeasure, then you need to run back to God for forgiveness and a renewal of your mind so you can be sure of your salvation.

Prayer point:

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let us pray for a heart of flesh at all times and never to be given to a reprobate mind.
