Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  1 Corinthians 13: 4-5. NIV

Love is the only commandment that the Lord directly gave us (John 13:34-35). Every other instruction can be derived from this command (Matthew 22:34-40). Therefore, it’s important we keep growing in our understanding and reminding ourselves of the different tenets of love. Today, we will zoom into “love is not easily angered”.

A quick temper is probably the opposite of this attribute of love. It means being easy to offend. It means being offended even at the minute or trivial mistakes of others. I bet nobody wants to be around a person who notices every single fault of theirs. Since we don’t like it, then we should not be that kind of person, for love also is doing to others what you would like them to do to you.

Speaking out when offended is acceptable and good, for the bible says in Proverbs 10:10 GNT

10 Someone who holds back the truth causes trouble, but one who openly criticizes works for peace.[a]

Again, Jesus says in Luke 17:3 NIV

“If your brother or sister[a] sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them.

So telling someone they have wronged you is good. You give them a chance to explain and or repent, which in the end is good for everyone.

However, just as in everything, we are to practice moderation even in pointing or calling out or complaining. You could, for instance, overlook especially for trivial things. Or give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that it was not deliberate. It makes you gentle and patient because you are forgiving without even being asked. Notwithstanding, if something is repetitive, then it’s probably worth addressing with gentleness and love, and even if there is no change after, at least you expressed your discontent.

In all, the Holy Spirit guides us in His gentle nudge when it’s needed to talk or overlook or just bear knowing that the Lord is your provider and defender.
