Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10 NIV
Some years ago I had a vision of stones in the form of humans having a race. I knew I was seeing across time, as each one in that race represented beings God had placed on earth to do His will, even before the creation of Adam. Like them, we are all in a race. Yet, that race is not against each other, but about accomplishing that which the Lord has called you to do.
When Apostle Paul was talking about this race, he said, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize” (1 Corinthians 9:24 NIV). This suggests that not all who are in the race will receive the reward in the end, but only those who run in accordance with the rules. In the accomplishment of our assignments on earth, we must ensure we do it as He has instructed us and not according to what others approve of. Sadly, many people seek the opinions and approval of men rather than of Him who sets the rules of the race we are in.
People-pleasing has derailed many from their tracks; they won the people but lost the God who sent them. This was the situation King Saul found himself in, as he disobeyed God because he feared the people (1 Samuel 15:24). Apostle Paul said, “…If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10 NIV). We cannot serve God if our aim is to please men.
So, don’t seek validation from people, especially in areas related to your assignment. Seek God to know His pattern for you, and do not bother if people think differently. In the end, only what God thinks of us will matter, so only His opinion should matter to us now.
