And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.โ€ Joshua 24:15

In the opening verse Joshua admonishes the Israelites to stop their hypocrisy. To choose decisively which god they will serve, is it the lord God almighty or the other gods. God Himself admonished the church of Laodicea: โ€œSo, because you are lukewarmโ€”neither hot nor coldโ€”I am about to spit you out of my mouth.โ€ (Revelations 3:16). We can see clearly that God is not pleased with being double sided and desires His children to walk with Him fully not partially.

In the opening verse, although Joshua refers to other gods, studying through scriptures you will see that there is in fact no other god (Isaiah 45:5). Joshua was communicating in their understanding. There are only two supernatural forces at work; it is either God and His angels or Satan and the fallen angels under him (Matthew 12:21-28). It looks like some of us do not know that it is either Godโ€™s side or Satanโ€™s side and we are looking for a middle ground where we can benefit from both kingdoms. We like to identify as Christian but not exactly conform our lives to be Christ like. We still want to may be take little bribe, have only one fornicating partner and so on. You cannot mix the two (2 Corinthians 6:14).

One of the reasons people are scared to follow God wholeheartedly is because they perceive His ways are too difficult. They say, โ€œYou canโ€™t really follow those rules like 100%โ€. Yes, it is difficult when you try to follow God in your own ability but in Christ there is the power to follow God called grace or Holy spirit. So yes, it is hard but at the same time it is easy, and you will reap the benefits. If you have not yet accepted Jesus as Lord and savior, then you donโ€™t have access to this power to walk in Godโ€™s ways. Also note that extremism is not equal to God’s will (Ecclesiastes 7:17-18,ย  2 Timothy 3:16)

Make up your mind today be on the Lord’s side. His grace is abundantly sufficient. When you fall from grace, do not stay down. Run back to your loving father. โ€œSurely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD foreverโ€ Psalm 23:6

Prayer Point:

Letโ€™s thank God for His word. Letโ€™s pray for the grace to follow Him wholeheartedly trusting that it is Him who will provide the grace to do His will.
