4ย For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not [a]loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David. ย 1 Kings 11:4 NKJV
There is a sharp contrast between the way King Solomon started and the way he ended. He started on a very good note as a King walking with the Lord and seeking God sincerely, expressed in the way he made huge sacrificial offerings and asked for wisdom to administer justice for the Lordโs people instead of self-centered things like wealth. However, we see how he ended up as an Idol worshipper. Why did King Solomon, despite being endued with so much wisdom, turn away from the worship of the one and only true God to other gods?
The scriptures reveal that Solomonโs heart was turned to other gods by the foreign women he loved and married. It also reveals that Israel had been warned by God not to intermarry with foreign women for this very same reason (1 Kings 11:1-7). So you can deduce from this that King Solomon ended badly because of carelessness and disobedience, not yielding to Godโs warning about foreign women. Did he really need to marry Foreign women? Werenโt there enough women in Israel for him to marry?
So now coming to us. How can we ensure that we donโt end up the same way as King Solomon? Itโs such a pity to start well and end badly in the Lord because the Lord does not consider the righteousness of the past when you turn away from Him and start walking in wickedness (Ezekiel 18:24). Just as in a race, it does not matter if at the beginning you were ahead if at the end of the race you are last.ย
That means we have to do everything to end well! As you know, discipline is an important aspect of our consistent walk with the Lord. But if it is by your strength, how far can you go, if the wisest man on earth could not go till the end? So you can see that itโs not by might but itโs by the spirit of the Lord, in other words, the grace of God which comes through Christ Jesus.
However, grace is accessed through asking, and asking is by prayer. Pray in tongues, as instructed in Jude 20-21.
Another thing we see in David’s life is that he repented at God’s rebuke.
In conclusion, we don’t want to be among those who started well and ended badly, but rather among those who continued till the end, and for this, we need to practice self-discipline, pray for grace or power, and repent quickly at God’s rebuke.
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask God to help all believers to be consistent in prayer and love.
