Title: Faith and Fear Comes by Hearing

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17 NKJV)

One of my favorite parts of the Gospels is where our Lord Jesus walked on Water. Our Lord Jesus left the Disciples in a Boat at the Shore and went to the mountains to pray. There was a strong wind which blew the Boat from the Shore into the middle of the sea. As they were battling with this heavy storm, they saw someone walking on the sea towards them, and they became terrified thinking it was a ghost.

The Lord Jesus told them that it was Him and so they shouldn’t be afraid.  Then Peter told Jesus that, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” Then the Lord Jesus asked him to come. Peter began walking on the Water until he took his eyes and mind off the Lord and His Word and focused on the sound of the Storm. Fear stepped in and he began to sink until the Lord Jesus grabbed him (Matt 14:22-33).

This portion of scripture reveals to us that Faith comes by hearing the word of God whilst Fear comes by hearing the voice of the world. I also believe that Faith is strengthened by the continuous hearing of the word of God and Fear is heightened by the continuous hearing of the voice of the world. When you turn on the TV or Radio and when you check social media, all you see is bad news that instils fear in people. The Media knows that most people are more naturally drawn to such News compared to the good ones. Therefore, they spend all their time on these bad and catastrophic News in order to get their views and money.

However, when you read or listen to the word of God, you are comforted and encouraged even when you are going through difficult times. You are always encouraged by the fact that you serve a God who loves you, cares about you and can also do all things. The word of God can’t never bring the Spirit of fear! He always brings the Spirit of Love, Power, and Sound mind (2 Tim 1:7). That’s why we have to be selective of what we hear or listen to.

There are so many different voices and depending on the type of voice, it will either strengthen your Faith or instill fear in you (1 Cor 14:10). Fear is a dangerous weapon that the evil one uses to steal from us and to also block us from fulfilling or God-given Potential and Ministry. Let’s therefore not give fear any place in our lives. We have to put ourselves in positions where we can regularly and continuously hear the word of God. Let’s study our Bibles regularly, listen to Christian music and preaching messages and be regular in Church and other Christian Fellowship meetings.

Beloved in the Lord, both Faith and Fear comes by hearing. Faith comes by hearing the word of God, but Fear comes by hearing the voice of the world. Let’s therefore continuously hear the word of God. Let’s not give Fear any place in our lives because the Just shall live by Faith and not Fear!

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His Word today. Let’s ask the Lord to give all Believers the love to continuously hear His Word. Let’s take authority and cast out every demonic spirit of Fear from the lives of all Believers around the world.
