For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind 2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV.
Fear is an unsettling feeling and inner turmoil that grips the heart and clouds the mind. But as children of God, we are not called to live in fear; we are called to walk by faith. Fear is not from God; it is a weapon the enemy uses to derail us from God’s purpose. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV).
The opposite of fear is faith. Faith looks to God; fear looks to the problem. Throughout our life journey, fear will try to creep in to whisper lies, to magnify obstacles, and to cause doubt. But Scripture urges us, Do not give the devil a foothold (Ephesians 4:27, NIV).
Fear often enters through sin, negative thinking, or a lack of trust in God’s promises. Just like Adam and Eve hid in fear after disobeying Godย Genesis 3:10, fear thrives where faith is absent. But you can overcome fear through the wisdom and Word of God. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom Proverbs 9:10, and true wisdom leads to trust, not terror.
God continually tells His people in Scripture, Do not be afraid. In fact, some say this command appears 365 times, one for each day of the year, reminding us that God’s peace is available daily.
Fear, if left unchecked, will hinder you from fulfilling your God ordained destiny. Just as the Israelites feared the giants in the Promised Land and missed out on God’s blessing (Numbers 13:31โ33), so too can fear cause us to retreat from our divine calling.
But you are not alone. Christ gives you strength. As the scripture says: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13, NKJV). When fear comes knocking, let faith answer the door.
Trust in the Lord, stand firm in His promises, and declare boldly: “The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1 NIV)
