Title: Getting no reward !

โBe careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. Matthew 6:1
For us men we judge by what we see but for God He looks at the motive, or directly at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). Thatโs because although generally a good motive or intention would lead to a good action, it is not always the case. Sometimes the motive is good but the result turns out not to be good.ย
Just as the motive can be good but it turns out bad, in the same way, the motive can be at times bad but it produces what appears to be good. That is the case for the examples Jesus mentioned in Mathew 6:1-16. The people described were generous people who help to be praised, prayer warriors whose prayer life ends on social media because their intention is to be seen or the Christian content creator who is not a christian.ย
As hard as it may sound many people want to use God for their own personal gains. Perhaps to be seen as pious, to get fame, to get rich etc. So itโs not like they want to be vessels submitted to the Lordโs will but rather want to use God.ย
It is a pity because God cannot be mocked. No one can use God. Just as the opening verse says, if your motives for practicing righteousness or doing good is not to please God then you get rewarded from those you are trying to impress but no reward from God.ย
As a music minister are you singing to show how beautiful your voice is or to reveal how beautiful the Lord is? As a preacher, are you preaching for the edification of the church and expansion of the kingdom or is it be among the top 10 richest pastors in the world?ย
The truth is that where there is no purity or authenticity there is no authority (Matthew 7:29). There are those with what might be considered an ugly voice but if they sing praise from a sincere heart it carries power because the Spirit backs it up.ย
Let us reflect and judge our selves and pray for God to purge our motives so that we can serve God with a genuine love for Him.
Prayer Point:
Letโs thank God for the word today.ย May God purge our motives so that we don’t serve one another with selfish motives.
