GIVE US OUR DAILY BREAD

Give us this day our daily bread.

(Matthew 6:11 NKJV)

The simple, quiet lifestyle of prayer of our Lord Jesus was different from the religious leaders who just prayed and only used words that would sweeten the ears of the hearer and not to bless and honor the authority of God.

The intimate prayer life of the Lord Jesus with His heavenly Father was very different from anything the world had ever witnessed before. The disciples of Jesus saw this and requested Him to teach them how to pray (Luke 11:1). Indeed it is lovely to reverently pray through the words that Christ first shared with His disciples.ย

Brethren, letโ€™s not be too familiar with the beauty of these words so that they donโ€™t become empty phrases. Jesus was not just teaching them the words but rather the approach towards prayer where an attitude of dependent faith is adopted; a trusting faith whichย flows from a humble heart of gratitude and praise.

โ€žGive us this day our daily breadโ€œ is a simple supplication to our heavenly Father from His petitioning child, but it follows a section that recognises the sovereignty of God, the eternal purpose of God and the perfect will of God.ย

God has promised to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory ( Philippians 4:19 ) but He delights to have His blood-bought children come to Him in humble dependence and tell Him of our needs, and voice our requests in humble helplessness.ย

He knows everything we need, and this scripture is not limited alone to food or shelter but it shows that we totally depend on Him by faith for all our individual daily needs.ย

Dear children of God, we have a Father that answers all our prayers according to His perfect will. The Bible says indeed without faith it is impossible to please God. Let us believe that God exist and He is ever ready to be our Provider. Trust in His promises, seek Him daily and depend on Him as He is willing to reward you for placing Him firstย  day by day to give you your daily bread.

Prayer Pointย

Letโ€™s thank God for His word today. Letโ€™s ask God to help us to always put Him first in our lives and recognise His goodness to us personally and over the entire universe. Let’s pray that God help us to give Him the honour due to His name and also boldly approach Him as our heavenly Father, who suppliesย all our daily needs.

If this has blessed you, please share this Call to Prayer with your friends and family so they will be blessed too.ย
