But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; (1 Peter 2:9).
Blessed be the name of the Lord who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ according as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love (Ephesians 1:3-4). It is a pleasure to realise that we have been redeemed not by the corruptible things of this world like gold, silver or earthly pearls but by the precious blood of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19). God always had the perfect plan for His chosen people, He wants them to be peculiar, special, holy and set apart for Him since the beginning of time.
God is unique, pure and holy in all His ways, and so He demands all that are called by Him to be likewise, but unfortunately, that could not be materialised because of the sinful nature of Man and the perpetual hindrances caused by the enemy. When one carefully takes the case of Israelites, one could but wonder how merciful and patient God is. The Israelites were so adamant, stiff-necked and rebellious people (Exodus 33:1-3), thus many of them died in the wilderness because of their murmuring and continues unbelief despite the countless interventions of God. Even God made covenant with them and their Fathers but they could not witness the fulfilment of those Covenant because of their behaviour. One of the covenants is that they shall be a peculiar people and a holy nation (Exodus 19:5-6).The old Israelites copied the idolaterous and other evil practices of the heathen/pagan nations which attracted God´s anger on them (Numbers 25:1-18).
Today, by the mercy of God we have become the Israelites through the promise, were born unto God in the Spirit (Galatians 4:28-29). As the contemporary Israelites, we are to live differently from the old Israelites. Our understanding and relationship with God ought to be different as they. We are to behave obediently to His voice, submit to His will, live a devoted life, and be dedicated daily for the expansion of His Kingdom. Also, we have to be set apart and consecrated as priests, who even in the old times were considered holy and special. We have to be indeed peculiar from the world, our lives must focus on absolute purity, holiness and devotion to our God.
Fellow heirs of God, it is significant we begin to be pragmatic with our faith life, we have no business whatsoever in the affairs of the world. In fact, our ultimate goal is to reveal Jesus to the world and bring glory to our Father in Heaven through conduct, lifestyle and godly character.
Prayer point:
Let´s thank God for the message and also ask Him to help us live according to His will.
