Title: God’s Special Messengers
By: Daniel Peter
Date: 11.05.2022
Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. 2 Timothy 2:21 NIV
In every generation, God is always seeking men to carry out His agenda on the earth, and our generation is no different. Though God can use anybody, He can only use certain people to carry out His special assignment on the earth, as such honour cannot be given to just anyone. What special work is the Lord doing today? How do we become His vessel of choice for such special purposes?
As we know, the appearance of Christ from heaven is drawing close. Apart from the fulfilment of certain scriptural prophecies pointing to His soon coming, The Holy Spirit has been announcing to the body of Christ through His servants the nearness of the day and that we should prepare for it. One of the things the Bible mentioned about the quality of the Church Christ is coming for is that “it shall be a Church without spot or wrinkle (Eph. 5:27)”. That is, it shall be a Church walking in all ways pleasing to the Lord. According to the scriptures, for us to walk in all ways pleasing to the Lord, we must have “the complete knowledge of His will, through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit (Col. 1:9, 10)”. This means we need a proper understanding of the scriptures for us to be able to walk in all ways pleasing to the Lord.
Understanding scriptures is not something that comes naturally to all. As the word is double-edged and takes the empowerment of the Holy Spirit for us to grasp. Apostle Peter speaking about the revelation of the New Covenant that came through Apostle Paul said: “Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. ( 2 Peter 3:15,16)”. From Apostle Peter’s writing, ignorant and unstable people are unable to understand scriptures. These ignorant and unstable people are also members of the Church, and since God desires all to be ready at His coming, He desires to help these people understand the scriptures. This is His special work today. The people He is going to use to achieve this task are called “special messengers”. These are the people God is looking for to use in His honourable service in this end time.
How can I be qualified to be used in this regard? In Apostle Paul’s admonition to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:20 – 21, he made mention of two kinds of vessels: “A vessel unto honour and a vessel unto dishonour (verse 20)”. He continued by saying: “Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes (verse 21)”. Therefore, to be His special messenger in this end time, you must be a practitioner of the word (one who has purified his or her vessel by practising the word). An example of this kind of person was the Old Testament priest called Ezra. He was one God used to help some people in the Old Testament to understand the scriptures (Nehemiah 8:13). The Bible witnessed that Ezra “…had set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, to practice it, and to teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel ( Ezra 7:10 BSB)”.
Therefore, like Ezra, as we dedicate ourselves to studying and practising the word, God qualifies us to be people He will use to give understanding to others (to teach others).
Prayer Point:
Let’s thank God for His word today. Let us ask Him to give us an unquenchable taste for the word, and the grace to practice all we learn at His feet.
