But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit. Jude 1:20 NIV

In the last two days, I have been writing about growing in certain areas of our walk with God. Today, I am going to write about growing in faith. Observing the speeches of Jesus Christ, we will notice that he used certain words to describe the faith of different people: for example, in Mark 4:40 He mentioned “no faith”, and in Matthew 17:20, He mentioned “little or small faith”. In Matthew 15:28 He called someone else’s faith “Great”. Finally, the greatest faith He found when He walked this earth was recorded in Matthew 8:10.

From the above, we see that Jesus knows the measure of faith of everyone and from the manner of His speech with the disciples, He expects that our faith should grow. Now, how does one grow from having no faith to having great faith? The first thing we need to do is hear the word, for the scriptures says “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Rom. 10:17 KJV)”. When we spend time listening to or meditating on the word, faith is imparted to our spirit and it grows.

Another activity that would help our faith to grow is speaking in tongues. Jude 1:20 states “But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit”. Just like a building rises during construction when bricks are added, our faith level increases even as we speak in tongues. Furthermore, we grow in our faith when we practice the word. All of the people whom Jesus addressed as having great faith were those who practised the word: The Greek woman wasn’t offended when Jesus Christ compared her with a dog (See Matthew 15:26-28), and the Centurion mentioned he was one under authority (Matthew 8:9- 11).

As we spend time listening to the Word, praying in the Holy Spirit, and practising the Word, our faith level increases. Receive the grace to grow in your faith today in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer Point:

Let’s thank God for His word. Let’s ask Him to Help each Christian to grow in their faith.
