if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. II Chronicles 7:14 NKJV

The state of the earth today is not according to God’s will. For scriptures said “... all the foundations of the earth are out of course (Psalms 82:5 KJV)”. However, the redemption or the healing of the earth is not a responsibility that is all on God, as man has a part. For “the highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to man (Psalm 115:16)”.

There’s a direct link between the actions of man and the state of the earth. When Adam sinned, the earth was cursed by God and it affected the produce of what is sown on it and what grows on it (Gen. 3:17). It was same when Cain killed Abel (Gen. 4:1-16). And in Deuteronomy 28, we saw how the actions of the Israelites determined the productivity of the land. Now, the curse on the land has been redeemed by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This was signified by the thorns, which is a sign of the curse, that was placed on Jesus Christ at the cross of Calvary (John 19:2).

Though the price for the redemption of the land has been paid, it doesn’t mean that the land has been redeemed. In the same way that though Jesus has paid for the sins of the whole world, doesn’t mean that all on earth are saved. The price is the basis of the redemption. To heal the Land, the model is the same as what God told the Israelite in 2 Chronicles 7:14. This can be summarized as fasting, prayer, and repentance. So, as we fast and pray for the redemption of the Land, and turn from our wicked ways, God responds by healing the land.

The redemption of the land also comes by speaking to the creation. When the wind was surging on the boat Jesus was traveling with, Jesus spoke to the wind and asked it to be still and it obeyed (Mark 4:39). In the same manner, we have the authority to command the creation and cause them to function as God ordained them and as we want them. Testimonies abound of people who God has used in this order, and scriptural examples apart from Jesus Christ are Moses, Joshua and Isaiah etc. If God could use Old Testament saints in this manner, what about us in the new?

The people who will take responsibility and do what was stated above are those whom God will use to fulfill what was written in Romans 8:19 – 21.

Prayer Point

Let’s thank God for His word today. Let’s ask Him to help us take responsibility for the redemption of the earth.
